The Canada Goose (Branta canadensis), also referred to as the Canadian Goose, belongs to the Branta genus of geese, which contains species with largely black plumage, distinguishing them from the grey species of the Anser genus. The species name, canadensis, is a New Latin word meaning "of Canada".

The Harpy Eagle's name references the harpies from Ancient Greek mythology. These were wind spirits that took the dead to Hades, and were said to have a body like an eagle and the face of a human.

Tecun Uman (1500-1524) was the last ruler of the Quiche people, in the highlands of what is now Guatemala. According to the Kaqchikel annals, he was slain by Spanish Conquistador Don Pedro de Alvarado while waging battle against the Spaniards in the grasslands of El Pinal (Valley of Olintepeque) on February 20, 1524.

The Chatham Islands is home to number of endemic birds. The most famous species of the islands are the Taiko (Magenta Petrel) and also the Albatross. The Taiko came periously close to extinction before being saved through conservation efforts.
